Saturday, June 20 – Philadelphia Medicine Day

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter recently proclaimed Sat., June 20, 2015, to be Philadelphia Medicine Day.

On June 20, the Philadelphia County Medical Society (PCMS) honored awardees and dedicated physicians, educators, researchers, health care professionals, and the hospitals in Philadelphia that helped to save lives during the AMTRAK train disaster in May.

“It is most honorable for the City and Mayor Nutter to proclaim June 20, 2015, as Philadelphia Medicine Day,” said PCMS President Michael DellaVecchia, MD. “This proclamation was announced with a special commendation for those medical centers that performed so heroically and with worldwide acclaim to the Amtrak disaster. The entire city medical community takes great pride in the exemplary response given by our many excellent institutions.”

PCMS, along with the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED), has been representing physicians for more than 160 years as they treat patients, advance science, maintain the standards of the profession, and protect the public health.

PAMED, county medical societies, and special societies serve as physicians’ voice, partner, and advocate on a variety of health care issues.
