Stage 3 MU Comment Period Now Underway – Urge CMS to Increase Flexibility and Address Interoperability Challenges

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) recently released a series of final rules on the electronic health record (EHR) Meaningful Use (MU) program, and specifically Stage 3 regulations.

CMS is allowing a 60-day comment period to hear feedback on Stage 3, and how it can be improved and better aligned with the new Merit-Based Incentive Payment System and alternative payment models. The comment period is now underway and ends Dec. 15.

You can send your comments to CMS through the AMA’s form.

In addition to sharing the challenges that you’ve had with your own EHR, be sure to address the urgent need for CMS to reconsider Stage 3 to:

  • Remove the MU program’s pass-fail approach
  • Provide more flexibility
  • Ensure EHR systems address interoperability challenges

Now is the time to make sure your voice is heard. Please take this opportunity to share your own personal experiences and challenges with EHRs with CMS. Join with your colleagues and let CMS know that MU is not working!
